Congratulations to Danish Khan for winning PERL's 2011 Student Essay Competition!
Danish participated at PERL's International Conference in Istanbul on 14-15 March 2011, by sharing his thoughts on his essay accepting his certificate.
The winners are:
1st place - Danish Khan from the NED University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan for his essay 'Yes We Can'
2nd place - Ruby Bartolo from the University of Malta for her essay 'Can You Imagine A More Sustainable Lifestyle?'
3rd place - Rebecca Camilleri from the University of Malta for her essay 'Can You Imagine A More Sustainable Lifestyle?'

Essays entered
21 entries were received from Ireland, India, Japan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malta, Mauritius, Pakistan, Panama, Romania, South Korea, Tanzania and Turkey.

The author of the best paper is invited to PERL's International Conference 'Enabling Responsible Living' in Istanbul, Turkey, 14-15 March, 2011. PERL pays all costs for travel, subsistence and accommodation. The winning contribution will be published in PERL’s conference proceedings.
Please note: If the winner accepts this prize they are responsible for ensuring any legal requirements are met, such as being of a legal age to travel alone or to travel with a guardian. PERL will not pay for any guardian to travel with the student.

Your essay should meet the following aspects:
- Essays will only be accepted electronically.
- Length: between 1500 & 2000 words.
- Submit a cover page for the essay including the title, author’s name, educational institution, and e-mail address.
- All submissions are original, unpublished work of an individual student, enrolled in full or part time study (excluding PhD) at the time of entering.
- Only one entry is permitted per person.
- Extensive footnoting/endnoting is discouraged and is included in the paper’s length.
- Citations, footnotes, and references should meet common academic standards (e.g. APA Guidelines).
- Authors grant PERL the right of the first publication of the paper.
- Submissions will be evaluated considering:
- Significance of the subject to responsible living
- Innovativeness in approach to the topic
- Thoroughness and precision in developing the subject
- Quality, clarity and conciseness of expression
- Use of own research.
- Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of PERL members.
